When you are participating in mediation with a neutral adviser you will benefit from consulting with your own lawyer between sessions. If you are negotiating directly with your spouse you may want support from an attorney behind the scenes. If you have already reached a settlement agreement you should have independent counsel review that agreement with your specific needs in mind before it is finalized with your signature. As your consulting and review attorney, I will respect the resolution process you have chosen for your divorce while providing you with independent and strategic counsel.
Because I am a mediation-friendly attorney I will not attempt to derail your peaceful resolution process, even if I find things in your agreement that cause me concern. Instead, I will advise you of my concerns and, if you agree, I will do everything I can to support you in returning to the negotiation table to have those concerns addressed.
